(G) Woke up in the morning, quarter to nine, coffee's in hand gonna make good time and I'm back on the side of the road. Yeah I'm just a wandering 'bo. Small town sunset half past eight I gotta get food 'fore it gets to late and I'm sleeping under the trees. Hot fire & a cool cool breeze. (B7) And I'm staring into the flames, burn a lil brighter now, realize we're all bound by change (Cm) Nothing here remains the same, nothing retains its name (Em) and I fall right back to the earth staring at the coals of a dying hearth, I fall right back to the earth. (G) Roll into town now it's nearly noon, I gotta get water but I'm leaving soon, waiting on another train. Looking up. I hope it don't rain. Ride a few miles, few more to go, 'fore I know it I'll be at that show yeah swimming lost in yer smile. And ya wonder why I ride all these miles all to be (B7) staring into yer eyes, burn a lil brighter now, full of wonder and full of surpise (Cm) Space Ghost, traveling coast to coast to coast. Sea to shining sea, we all burn to be free. (Em) And I fall right back to the Earth.

Bechya never heard of the Molly Maguires or the black rock bootleggers, outlaw coal miners. They fought the Philadelphia & Reading Coal & Iron Company, and then swinging on a rope, the company set them free. Black Tuesday came, Black Tuesday spent, and everybody knows money always wins. Company owned the mines, trains and the land. They hung those miners who worked for them with their dirty hands. One struggle ends where another one begins. That's just the way it goes when 6 out of 7 coal mines close. (Now let's hear it from the people who were there to tell the tale) The company came in they raped the land and they pulled out. We thought the end of the world was coming. They shut everything down. There was no such thing as money. It was people helping people. There was no such thing as money. People who had cows shared the milk, people who had pigs shared the meat. There was no such thing as money, we bartered. The company came in they raped the land and they pulled out. That's when the bootlegging started, the coal was in the ground. People started digging their own coal holes. We all knew where it was at. We all knew where it was at. The company came in they raped the land and they pulled out. I traded flour or potatoes for coal, sold the coal in the town. Bootlegger cash supplanted barter, but the ethics that governed the exchange, mutual obligation, sharing, and solidarity remained deeply ingrained in the practices of the illegal industry. Mutual obligation, sharing and solidarity.

The Mouse's Secret
03:05
|

The Mouse has got a story, not one that you will hear. Clouded visions keep away all that you hold dear. I'm so tired of this hole I keep on crawling to, the cobwebs and the ash never hide no truth. And just like the mouse, I'm tired, oh lord I'm tired. But for now I must roll on. Just a mouse you say, but one with ideals. Greater than the mammoth overlooked and underheeled. I'm so tired of this world I keep on crawling to, the cobwebs and the ash never hide no truth. And just like the mouse, I'm tired, oh lord I'm tired. But for now I must roll on. The mouse has got a story, not one that you will hear.

Ragged, but Right
03:25

I come to tell ya folks I'm ragged but I'm right, I'm a tramp & a traveler yeah I stay up late at night. Dumpster diving, white box three times a day for my fill. I'm eating organic I ain't gotta foot no bill. Got that big bright red fire, keep me warm while I sleep. Cute lil puppies running 'round at my feet. Oh I'm rambling, I'm traveling and I lead that dirty life. I tell ya folks I'm ragged but I'm right. I go everywhere. Don't pay no fare. I'll catch a ride if a freight train's going there. If I win or lose, I never never sing no blues cuz I'm ragged, and I just don't care. I'll never get married, dunno if I'll settle down. I like to ride them freight trains from town to town. Now I'm in a traveling band, it's one I'm damn proud of. I know they'll keep me happy they're the ones that I love.

Blackest Crow
04:26

The blackest crow that ever flew would surely turn to white
If ever my love proved false to you bright day would turn to night
Bright day will turn to night my love, the elements will mourn
If ever my love provde false to you the seas would rage and burn
I wish my chesst were made of glass wherein you might behold
Upon my heart your name lies wrote in letters made of gold
In letters made of gold my love, believe me when I say
You are the one I will adore until my dying day
As time draws near my dearest dear when you and I must part
What little you know of the grief and woe in my poor aching heart
Oh tis' but I suffer for your sake you are my dearest dear
I wish that I was going with you, or that you were staying right here

Roaring River Running
05:15
|
|||
I was born on the wings of winter under mountains steep and strong. I was born in an alpine valley, roaring river running through my yard. And I watched that river flow until it flood, watched it dry up to mud. I watched that river flow when I left my home and that river keeps on running so will I. I watched patterns in the pools and glimpsed some deeper truths that I could not put to words. All around every bend that river's been my friend through the good times and all the hurt. Oh I've cried and I've laughed, taken a bath in thermal waters and cold springs. From the Crystal to the Colorado, North Platte to the Rio Bravo, from the Nile to the Mississippi. I've played games on the banks of smooth tumbled rocks, icy water a naked shock. As I jump to and fro, that river watched me grow. There ain't no better home that I know.
